Projects

The Launch of our new project called "Show You Care Send A Bear".

The aim of the project is to put a smile on the face of a sick child by sending a warm, cuddly teddy bear and in turn help support Reach For A Dream fulfill dreams. The bears provide a welcome distraction from the medical traetment that the children are receiving and will help alleviate some of the anxiety and fear that children may experience while in hospital.

Suffering from Rhabdomysarcoma, Tracy, a nineteen year old former dream child, recognized the fact that children who stay in hospital for weeks and months on end, need to have a form of entertainment at their disposal to relieve their boredom. She suggested that our Foundation equip hospital wards with a unit comprised of a Television set, video machine and Playstation and that the children have free access to the units which could, if necessary, be pulled towards their hospital beds for individual use.

Captain Courage is an exclusive ‘boys only’ project filled with adventurous activities to reward these children for their bravery. Being diagnosed with a life-threatening illness can be a very challenging experience for a young boy. By taking part in courageous activities, our boys are given the chance to show off their fighting spirit. Every Captain Courage event is aimed at exposing the boys to a new environment but more importantly it’s an opportunity for them to have fun outside of hospital with other children who have similar experiences.

Every little girl dreams of being a beauty queen and so the purpose of this project is to treat our brave girls to a day out of their hospital environment and crown them Queen For A Day! Each girl is made to feel special and beautiful to ease the effect of their illnesses on their bodies and more importantly, their self-esteem.

A child's need to laugh can get lost in the tangle of medical procedures. We believe that by providing a hospital entertainer in the hospital environment, we can be instrumental in bringing back laughter that may have been taken away from these children by their illnesses.

For children living with life-threatening illnesses, Camp Sunshine is all about fun, laughter, making new friends and partaking in the team activities, games and sports.
A weekend away with other children allows them to leave the worries of their illness behind and just enjoy being a carefree child! The weekend is filled with activities such as swimming, talent competitions, horse riding, campfire concerts, game drives, obstacle courses, fashion shows, marshmallow braais and so much more!
