My hero..... Zuma!

Neo is an 11 yr old boy with a congenital heart defect. His dream was to meet President Zuma. We took him and his family to the Madelakufa settlement in Thembisa on the 19th March where the president was giving a speech to the community. We had front row seats in the Marquee, just in front of the president and the ministers. When Zuma arrived the crowds broke into song and dance and Neo got very excited.

The Premier welcomed everyone and then Zuma addressed the crowds in his usual charismatic way.

As the event drew to a close we were unsure as to whether Neo would indeed get the opportunity to personally meet the president as security was so tight that nobody could get near him. The Premier stood up to address the crowds and unfortunately it was in Zulu so I didn’t understand but I did hear Neo’s name being repeated. I asked someone to translate and they said that she was telling everyone about this little boy with a heart problem who wanted to meet Msholozi.

His mother started to cry and didn’t stop until we left the marquee! Then Neo was invited onto the stage and gave Zuma a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. He presented Zuma with the Reach For A Dream thank you box. They then shook hands and posed for pictures. Neo beamed a smile from cheek to cheek and ran around hugging everyone when he left the stage. His father said that this is a day that none of the family will ever forget. Afterwards we went to the Spur for lunch and ice cream with a sparkler.

This was such an amazing dream and the whole day was an awesome experience from start to finish. This is what dreams are made of!
